Dr. Vernon Mochache

Dr. Vernon Mochache is a medical doctor, epidemiologist, and public health practitioner with over 15 years’ experience working in the field of sexual reproductive health and rights (SRHR). His technical experience encompasses providing clinical care, conducting research, evaluating, and implementing various public health programmes within government, non-governmental as well as research and academic sectors. He has actively contributed to the development and dissemination of various policy documents at national, regional, and global level aimed at improving the SRHR of vulnerable and marginalized populations.

He has previously worked as a Deputy Director at the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) Africa Regional Office; Head of Research and later, Deputy Director for Policy, Monitoring & Research at the National AIDS Control Council (NACC); Program Director at the University of Maryland, Baltimore’s (UMB) Centre for International Health, Education and Biosecurity (CIHEB); Project Manager at the International Centre for Reproductive Health (ICRH) as well as Research Project Physician at the University of Nairobi’s Institute of Tropical and Infectious Diseases (UNITID) under the Kenya HIV/STIs Research Project. He started his career at the Ministry of Health as the Medical Officer in-charge of Gilgil Sub-District Hospital in Nakuru County.

In addition to being well-published in peer-reviewed journals, Dr. Mochache has held fellowships from the International AIDS Society (IAS), the Population Reference Bureau and the University of Washington under the International AIDS Research Training Program (IARTP). He is a firm believer in a community-led, multi-sectoral, rights-based approach when dealing with the health and rights of marginalized and vulnerable populations.

Dr. Mochache trained as a medical doctor at the University of Nairobi and obtained a Master of Public Health from the University of Washington in Seattle, USA, and a Doctor of Health Sciences from Ghent University in Belgium.
