A cluster of 23 private doctors on Mombasa Island who have enrolled over 150 HIV patients on HIV care treatment can now access commodities supplied by KEMSA for their eligible cases through an anchor facility managed by Dr. Francis Waudo. By submitting their monthly service and consumption reports and forecasted needs to Dr. Waudo together with a service fee of one thousand shillings per month (USD10), practitioners can access commodities from KEMSA. Dr. Waudo’s Clinic distributes the commodities to cluster members. Jointly with the Coast Referral Hospital pharmacist, Dr. Waudo ensures consistency with current treatment standards. He consolidates the monthly consumption reports for the program. Through GSN technical oversight, any quality issues arising are addressed in the quarterly cluster performance review meetings that are facilitated by the GSN clinical mentors in collaboration with the County AIDS and STI Co-ordinator (CASCO). Over a 6-month period, a 50% increase in patient retention was realized. Viral suppression rates also increased.
