With donor funding from Safaricom Foundation, Gold Star Kenya (GSK) is implementing a broad health system strengthening NCD interventions in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, Garissa county health management team, community health strategy, and facility-based health care workers. It has been a two-phased intervention between September 2021 to March 2022 and July 2022 to January 2023.

The project is being implemented in six of the seven sub-counties in Garissa county namely Ijara, Garissa township, Balambala, Lagdera, Fafi, and Daadab. It’s a transition project currently supporting 219 children living with diabetes that ensures appropriate client mapping, linking to comprehensive diabetes care, commodity management, and wholesome health system strengthening.

Program Objectives/goals

Specific project objectives entail:

  1. Client mapping, linkage, and transition to the county treatment plan
  2. Support care and comprehensive management of children with diabetes
  3. Health Systems Strengthening
  4. Operationalize and sustained the running of the Diabetes Management Centre (DMC)
  5. Health financing. Registration of enrolled children under NHIF/UHC
  6. Diabetes commodities management

Advocacy on Type 1 Diabetes and CHVs incentivization and general NCD advocacy. Data management and digitization of DMC and client care.
